Donor Fees and Expenses
Our Agency abides by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine ("ASRM") guidelines on compensation for egg donors. (To review those guidelines, click here "Financial Incentives in Recruitment of Oocyte Donors".) In sum, those guidelines state that "Although there is no consensus on the precise payment that oocyte donors should receive, at this time sums of $5,000.00 or more require justification and sums above $10,000 go beyond what is appropriate."
Based on these guidelines, donors in our program typically receive a fee in the $4,000 to $6,000 range. In some circumstances, we will allow donors to request a fee between $6,000.00 and $10,000. We will not accept any donor seeking more than $10,000. For any donor requesting more than $6,000.00, we will advise the donor about the ASRM guidelines and encourage her to lower her requested fee. If you are interested in any donor seeking a fee above $6,000.00, it may be possible to have the donor reduce her fee once we tell her that we have clients potentially interested in working with her.
In addition to their fee, donors are reimbursed for all out-of-pocket expenses incurred in connection with the egg donor cycle, including travel expenses, if necessary. Working with a donor who is within driving distance to your clinic will significantly reduce the amount of the donor's expenses. Donors are not reimbursed for any expenses that are not set forth in the contract and/or have not been approved of by you in advance.
You will be required to deposit an amount sufficient to cover the donor's fee and anticipated expenses at the time the donor agreement is signed. Your donor will not be paid any portion of her fee unless and until she has had an egg retrieval. In the event that your donor does not stimulate well and your clinic cancels the cycle, the donor will be paid a small portion of her fee to compensate her for the time and effort of going through the process up to that point. If your donor does undergo a retrieval procedure, she will be paid her fee, regardless of the number of eggs retrieved, the number of embryos created or whether the cycle results in a pregnancy. The donor's fee will be paid only after we have received confirmation that the retrieval has taken place. The fee will be paid no later than five business days after the retrieval. The donor's expenses will be reimbursed at that same time (unless otherwise agreed to in the donor agreement).
You will also be required to pay some additional costs in connection with an egg donor cycle. These include the donor's attorney's fee and screening costs. More detailed information about specific costs can be found in the Egg Donation Fee Schedule.
